In the link you can see the one I'm using, but it doesn't mean it's the best, it's just one of the first I came up with when googled "timer" and fitted well to my purposes. I like it being able to made full-screen.
When I tell my students to do some activity I like to tell them how much time they have to do it. Up till now I used my watch or the computer on my table, but since I'm lucky enough to have new technologies at hand in class, I have decided to make the most of it in everything.
That's why I use the timer full-screen, to let them know how they are doing with time, no matter if it is a speaking activity in groups or a Progress Activity, whatever.
They seem to like it and it allows me to not be worrying about the time and looking at the watch all the time. I don't like it at all, since it gives me the impression that the students will think that I'm longing for the class to be dismissed.
